Description
“Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” is concertante work, written by Rachmaninov towards the end of this life, when he was living in Switzerland. It is a set of 24 variations based on Niccolo Paganini’s most famous “Caprice”, the variation n.18 is by far the best known, and it is often used in classical music compilations without the rest of the work. Even Rachmaninov himself recognized the appeal of this variation, saying “this one is for my agent”.
