PETER TCHAIKOVSKY
“Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”

6.00

From ballet “Nutcracker”

One of Peter Tchaikovsky’s most enduring legacies is his ballet “The Nutcracker”. It is a Christmas story in which young Marie Stahlbaum’s favourite toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive and, after defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, becomes a Prince and whisks her away to a magical kingdom populated by dolls. A great addition to a school orchestra program, as it allows to choose a soloist amongst the orchestra.

Description

One of Peter Tchaikovsky’s most enduring legacies is his ballet “The Nutcracker”. It is a Christmas story in which young Marie Stahlbaum’s favorite toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive and, after defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, becomes a Prince and whisks her away to a magical kingdom populated by dolls. Sugar Plum Fairy is a character in Act II of this ballet. She temporarily rules the beautiful Country of Sweets, while its regular ruler – The Prince – is away in people’s land, being spelled into a wooden nut-cracker.

HomeOrchestra arrangements of classical music standards is a very desirable addition to a school orchestra repertoire. It allows to choose a member of any group – keyboards, strings, woodwinds or brass – and give them an unprecedented opportunity to shine as a soloist of a symphonic orchestra from the youngest age!
