Description

This masterpiece by Bach is commonly referred to as “Air on on the G string”, because of a widely known arrangement by German violinist August Wilhelm, who transposed the piece down from it’s original key of D major to C major, so the first “signature” note became G (“sol”). As a result of the immense popularity of the piece, “on the G string” remained it’s common name, whether or not the solo instrument playing on its G string was involved.
